Quick answer
Is London the cheapest UK departure for business class to Abu Dhabi?
Not on current guide fares. The cheapest UK departure is currently Newcastle (NCL) at £2,365 return, and the London fare is the most expensive of the five we price — the reverse of the usual pattern.
Abu Dhabi has two nonstop UK operators. Etihad flies from Heathrow Terminal 4 and from Manchester Terminal 2, mostly on Boeing 787s, and British Airways added a daily Abu Dhabi service from winter 2025.
Figures were checked and are dated guide fares, not live prices. Which origin is cheapest can change when we refresh these fares.
Do not assume you have to reach London. Ask us to price your regional airport alongside Heathrow before you book rail or a hotel night.
- Two nonstop UK operators: Etihad and British Airways
- Etihad is Heathrow Terminal 4 and Manchester Terminal 2
- Manchester Etihad services are mostly Boeing 787s
- The fare prices to Zayed International (AUH)
- Abu Dhabi and Dubai are separate emirates with separate fares

Almost every long-haul page tells you London is the cheapest place to start. On current Abu Dhabi guide fares that is not true, and the gap runs the other way by enough to be worth checking before you book a train.
London is not the cheapest UK departure on current guide fares
The lowest business class guide fare for Abu Dhabi is £2,365 return from Newcastle (NCL), checked. The London fare is the dearest of the five UK departures. The departure board below is ordered so you can see the spreader rather than take our word for it.
This happens because the UK origins are not all buying the same thing. A regional departure is often a through fare built on a connection, priced to win traffic away from a London departure; the London fare is competing against everything else leaving Heathrow that evening. Neither is a mistake in the data. It does mean the usual advice — get yourself to Heathrow, it will be cheaper — is the wrong advice on this route today.
Two practical cautions. These fares move when we refresh them, so it is a reason to ask, not a permanent rule. And a cheaper regional fare that connects is not automatically the better trip: see what the routing actually is before you choose it on price alone.
Who flies the nonstop
Abu Dhabi has two UK nonstop operators we can evidence.
- Etihad Airways, the UAE's national carrier, operates from London Heathrow Terminal 4 and from Manchester Terminal 2. Manchester Airport states that most Etihad flights from Manchester are operated on Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
- British Airways announced a daily service between Abu Dhabi and London from winter 2025, describing a four-cabin configuration — First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller — on selected Middle East routes. We do not read that as a guarantee of First on this particular rotation, and we confirm the cabin layout on your dates rather than assuming it.
Etihad's A380, and with it The Residence and the First Apartments, is published by the airline as operating on selected flights between Abu Dhabi, London, New York and Paris. If that specific aircraft matters to you, tell us — it is a date-by-date question, not a route guarantee.
Abu Dhabi or Dubai — 90 minutes apart, priced separately
They are different emirates with different airports, and on our current guide fares they are not close on price. Travellers regularly buy the wrong one because a hotel description says "Dubai area" or because a conference venue sits between the two.
If the trip is genuinely to Dubai with a day in Abu Dhabi, the Dubai page is usually the right fare. If the meetings, the hotel or the family are in Abu Dhabi, buy AUH — the road transfer between the two is not a rounding error on a short stay.
Getting to Terminal 4 from a UK connection
Heathrow lists Etihad in Terminal 4, along with Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Saudia and Riyadh Air. British Airways operates from Terminals 3 and 5. If you are connecting off a domestic or regional BA flight onto an Etihad departure, that is an inter-terminal transfer at Heathrow, and it needs more than the minimum connection time a booking engine will happily sell you.
What to check on the quote
- Which UK origin the fare is actually built from — on this route the cheapest is not the obvious one.
- Whether a cheaper regional fare is nonstop or a connection, and where it connects.
- The arrival airport code: AUH, not DXB.
- The Heathrow terminal, and how long you have to move between terminals if you are connecting.
- The operating carrier on each sector, and the cabin on each sector, before you accept a four-cabin description.
Abu Dhabi gained a second UK carrier when British Airways added a daily service. Our guide to business class across the Gulf compares it with the seven other Gulf arrivals.

How much is business class to Abu Dhabi from the UK?
The lowest indicative guide fare we currently hold is £2,365 return, and it comes from Newcastle (NCL) rather than London — the London fare is the dearest of the five UK departures. Checked.
Is it cheaper to fly to Abu Dhabi from London or from a regional airport?
The cheapest UK departure is currently Newcastle (NCL) and the London fare is the dearest of the five UK departures. That is the reverse of the usual pattern, and it is worth pricing both before you commit to travelling to Heathrow.
Which airlines fly nonstop from the UK to Abu Dhabi?
Etihad Airways operates from London Heathrow Terminal 4 and from Manchester Terminal 2. British Airways announced a daily Abu Dhabi to London service from winter 2025. We confirm the operating carrier on your dates.
What aircraft does Etihad use from Manchester?
Manchester Airport states that most Etihad flights from Manchester are operated on Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Aircraft assignment changes, so we confirm it on the dates you give us.
Can I fly the Etihad A380 to Abu Dhabi from London?
Etihad publishes The Residence as available on its A380 on selected flights between Abu Dhabi, London, New York and Paris. That is a date-by-date question rather than a guarantee on every London rotation, so tell us if the aircraft matters and we will check it.
Which airport does this Abu Dhabi fare use?
Zayed International (AUH). Dubai International (DXB) is a different emirate and a separate fare with its own page.
Which Heathrow terminal is Etihad?
Heathrow lists Etihad Airways in Terminal 4, alongside Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Saudia and Riyadh Air. British Airways is in Terminals 3 and 5, so a BA connection onto Etihad is an inter-terminal transfer.
Should I fly to Dubai and drive to Abu Dhabi?
Sometimes, but check the total. They are separate emirates roughly 90 minutes apart by road, the two cities price differently on our current guide fares, and a transfer at each end can undo a fare saving on a short stay.
Does British Airways offer First to Abu Dhabi?
British Airways describes a four-cabin configuration including First on selected Middle East routes. We do not treat that as confirmation for this specific rotation and will confirm the actual cabin layout on your dates before quoting a First fare.
Is first class available to Abu Dhabi?
We currently hold a first class fare from £4,918. Etihad publishes First Apartments on its A380, and British Airways publishes a four-cabin layout on selected Middle East routes — neither is a promise about the rotation you are quoted, so we check the aircraft first.
Are these Abu Dhabi fares guaranteed?
No. On this route the guide fare is unusually sensitive to which UK origin it is built from, and the cheapest origin can change between guide faress. The figures here were checked.
How do I get an Abu Dhabi business class quote?
Use the enquiry form above or email info@expertsbusinessfirst.co.uk. Give us your dates and your nearest UK airport as well as London, so we can price the ladder rather than assume it.
