Quick answer
Is the London to Perth nonstop available in both directions?
No. London to Perth is nonstop, but the return currently routes via Singapore and is scheduled to do so until 31 January 2027, returning to nonstop from 1 February 2027.
Qantas suspended the nonstop westbound sector on 4 March 2026 after Middle East airspace restrictions lengthened the routing and left the Boeing 787-9 without payload margin. The eastbound London to Perth leg has stayed nonstop throughout.
Routes and dates checked 12 September 2026. Schedules change, so both directions are confirmed on your dated quote. Business class guide fares start from £2,851 return from Glasgow (GLA), checked.
Check your return date against 1 February 2027 and plan the journey home as a one-stop if you travel before it.

Almost every page written about this route says the same thing: London to Perth is the only nonstop between the UK and Australia, about 17 hours. That sentence is half right, and the half it gets wrong is the half that costs you a day. The nonstop currently runs in one direction only, and there is a date on which that changes.
The nonstop runs one way — for now
Qantas has scheduled the westbound service through Singapore between 25 October 2026 and 31 January 2027. From 1 February 2027 the Perth to London Heathrow sector is scheduled to return to nonstop operation. The eastbound London to Perth leg stays nonstop throughout. Routes and dates checked 12 September 2026; schedules change, so we confirm the actual routing on your dated quote rather than promising it here.
Why the return stops and the outbound does not
It is not a demand decision. Airspace restrictions across the Middle East forced a longer routing, which added flying time to an already marginal sector. Westbound — against the prevailing winds and on the longer track — the Boeing 787-9 could not carry a full commercial payload and still make the distance. Qantas had been flying the nonstop with substantially fewer passengers than the aircraft can seat because of those weight limits; the Singapore routing removes the restriction and lets the aircraft carry a full load.
The practical consequence for you is that the westbound stop is a physics problem with a date attached, not a temporary cancellation that might be reversed at short notice. If your return is before 1 February 2027, plan for the stop.
Is Perth the right Australian arrival for you?
Perth's case rests almost entirely on the outbound nonstop. Whether that is worth it depends on where you are actually going.
- If Perth and Western Australia are the trip — Margaret River, the Kimberley, Ningaloo — then the outbound nonstop is the best single sector available from the UK to Australia, and Perth is the obvious arrival.
- If the east coast is the trip, Perth is the wrong door. Perth to Sydney or Melbourne is a four-to-five-hour domestic flight across the continent, on top of 17 hours. A one-stop straight to the east coast is shorter and simpler.
- If the Red Centre is the trip, Perth actively works against you. The Perth to Alice Springs sector is flown by Airnorth on an all-economy Embraer E170, so the premium cabin ends when you land in Australia. Our Alice Springs page sets out which gateway keeps the cabin.
If Perth is competing with another Australian arrival in your planning, our Australia hub compares all six by journey shape.
What your UK departure costs for Perth
Business class to Perth starts from £2,851 return from Glasgow (GLA), checked. The rest of the UK sits close behind:
Note that the lowest figure is not London, even though London is where the nonstop departs from. A regional departure on this route usually means connecting on to the nonstop, or taking a one-stop routing instead — so on Perth more than anywhere, the cheapest ticket and the best journey are not always the same thing. Ask us to price both and compare them properly.
Perth Airport (PER) and the ground reality
Perth Airport is about 12 km east of the city centre. The Qantas international operation uses the same precinct as its domestic services, which is part of what makes Perth workable as a single-airport arrival — but it is a large site, and if your itinerary includes an onward domestic sector, connection time matters.
Perth is also Qantas's European gateway rather than a general Australian hub. That shapes what connects well: Western Australia and the Indian Ocean side of the country, rather than the eastern states.
Business, premium economy and first to Perth
- Business class on the Qantas 787-9 is the cabin the fare here is for — a lie-flat bed for the full 17 hours outbound.
- Premium economy is available on the 787-9 and is a serious consideration on a sector this long, priced well below business. On 17 hours the difference between a large seat and a bed is the entire decision.
- First class is not offered on the Qantas 787-9, so there is no first class cabin on the nonstop. A first class fare to Perth means a one-stop routing on another carrier with first on the long sector — worth knowing before you ask for it.
Before you book Perth
- Check your return date against 1 February 2027. Before it, plan a stop in Singapore on the way home; after it, the nonstop is scheduled to resume.
- Do not assume the return mirrors the outbound. Ask for the routing and elapsed time of both directions separately.
- If the east coast or the Red Centre is your real destination, ask us to price the alternative arrival before committing to Perth.
- If a first class cabin matters, say so — it is not available on the nonstop aircraft.
- Confirm the aircraft and cabin on every sector on the dated quote rather than relying on the route's reputation.
FAQs
What do travellers ask about business class to Perth?
Prefer to talk? +447348617176 .
Is the London to Perth flight still nonstop?
Outbound, yes. The London to Perth sector operates nonstop on the Boeing 787-9 in around 17 hours. The return is different: Perth to London currently routes via Singapore Changi, and is scheduled to do so until 31 January 2027. Checked 12 September 2026.
When does the nonstop Perth to London flight come back?
From 1 February 2027 the westbound Perth to London Heathrow sector is scheduled to return to nonstop operation. Qantas has scheduled the Singapore routing for westbound services between 25 October 2026 and 31 January 2027. Schedules can change, so we confirm the actual routing on your dated quote. Checked 12 September 2026.
Why does the return flight stop when the outbound does not?
Airspace restrictions across the Middle East forced a longer routing, and westbound — against the prevailing winds and on the longer track — the Boeing 787-9 could not carry a full commercial payload over that distance. Qantas had been operating the nonstop with substantially fewer passengers than the aircraft seats because of the weight limits. Routing through Singapore removes the restriction.
How long does the Perth to London journey take with the stop?
The Singapore routing adds roughly three to four hours, pushing total westbound travel past 20 hours against about 17 hours for the nonstop. It operates as QF209 on the same Boeing 787-9, so it is a stop on one aircraft rather than a change of carrier.
Should I fly into Perth if I am going to Sydney or Melbourne?
Generally no. Perth to Sydney or Melbourne is a four to five hour domestic flight across the continent on top of the 17-hour sector. If the east coast is your destination, a one-stop routing directly there is shorter and involves fewer things going wrong. Perth earns its place when Western Australia is the trip.
Does the Perth nonstop work for Alice Springs and the Red Centre?
It works against you. The Perth to Alice Springs sector is operated by Airnorth on an all-economy Embraer E170, so your premium cabin ends the moment you land in Australia. Sydney is the gateway that keeps a business cabin on the final leg into Alice Springs.
Is first class available on the London to Perth nonstop?
No. The Qantas Boeing 787-9 used on this route has business, premium economy and economy, but no first class cabin. A first class fare to Perth necessarily means a one-stop routing on another carrier with first class on the long sector — worth establishing before you ask for a first class quote.
Is premium economy worth considering on a 17-hour sector?
It is one of the clearest premium economy cases anywhere. Seventeen hours is long enough that the seat genuinely determines how you arrive, and the price gap against business is wide. It is still a seat rather than a bed, so we price both and let you judge.
Does the Perth fare cover the outbound nonstop and the one-stop return?
Yes — it is a return business class guide fare for the whole journey, which on current schedules means a nonstop out and a Singapore stop on the way home until 1 February 2027. The figure does not change because the return has a stop; what changes is your elapsed time. We set out both directions on the quote so you can see what you are actually buying.
Is the cheapest UK departure for Perth always London?
No. The lowest guide fare is not the London one, even though London is where the nonstop departs. A regional departure usually means connecting on to the nonstop, or taking a one-stop routing instead — so on Perth the cheapest ticket and the best journey are often different things. We price both so you can choose deliberately.
