Quick answer
Which Canadian city, and which UK airport can you leave from?
Toronto and Vancouver have the widest UK choice. Vancouver is served nonstop from both Heathrow and Gatwick by British Airways, and Air Canada flies Heathrow. Virgin Atlantic returned to Canada on 30 March 2025 with a daily Heathrow to Toronto service.
WestJet flies Calgary to London Gatwick, and Edinburgh as a summer service. Its lie-flat business pod is carried only on the Boeing 787, so the aircraft decides the seat more than the airline does.
Route facts checked 14 September 2026. Montreal is the shortest transatlantic sector of the six and still not the cheapest, so distance is not what sets these prices.
Confirm the aircraft, not just the airline: the same carrier sells a lie-flat bed and a recliner on different Canadian rotations.
- Vancouver has nonstops from both Heathrow and Gatwick
- Virgin Atlantic returned to Toronto on 30 March 2025
- WestJet’s lie-flat business pod flies only on the 787
- Calgary’s only year-round UK nonstop is London
- Lowest Canadian guide fare £1,649 to Ottawa
Canada is the region where the aircraft matters more than the airline. The same carrier will sell you a lie-flat bed on one rotation and a recliner on another, and the difference is the aeroplane rather than the brand on the ticket. That is the thing worth confirming before anything else.

Which Canadian city, and what flies there
| City | UK services | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Toronto (YTO) | Virgin Atlantic daily from Heathrow on a Boeing 787-9 since 30 March 2025, its first Canadian route since 2014 | Business class to Toronto |
| Vancouver (YVR) | Nonstop from Heathrow by Air Canada and British Airways, and nonstop from Gatwick by British Airways | Business class to Vancouver |
| Calgary (YYC) | Year-round UK nonstop to London only, by Air Canada and WestJet; WestJet also flies Edinburgh as a summer service | Business class to Calgary |
| Montreal (YUL) | The shortest transatlantic sector of the six, and not the cheapest | Business class to Montreal |
| Ottawa (YOW) | The capital, and on current figures the lowest Canadian guide fare of the six | Business class to Ottawa |
| Edmonton (YEG) | Alberta's other gateway; usually a connecting itinerary rather than a nonstop | Business class to Edmonton |
Vancouver is the one with the unusual advantage: two London airports, both nonstop. If getting to Heathrow is the awkward part of your journey, that is worth more than a small difference in fare.
The aircraft decides the seat
WestJet Business is a lie-flat private pod with direct aisle access, a 46-inch pitch and 22 inches of width — but it is carried only on the Boeing 787. Put differently: booking WestJet does not by itself tell you what you will sleep in. Air Canada Signature Class converts to a fully flat bed of up to 203.2 cm and is offered on European flying.
This is the single most useful thing to check on a Canadian booking, and it is the reason we confirm the operating aircraft on your dates rather than quoting a cabin from a brochure.
Leaving from outside London
Calgary is the exception worth knowing: WestJet flies it from Edinburgh as a summer service, and its London service uses Gatwick rather than Heathrow. For the other cities, a regional departure is generally a connecting itinerary, which is not a reason to avoid it — it is a reason to have it priced properly rather than assumed.
Tell us the airport you can actually reach and we will price it from there.
If Canada is not the final stop
Virgin Atlantic and WestJet are co-located at Toronto Pearson Terminal 3, and their codeshare connects through Toronto to thirteen destinations. If your final stop is a smaller Canadian city, a single itinerary through that shared terminal is usually a better ticket than two separate bookings — and a great deal better than two separate tickets with a terminal change in the middle.
Six cities, six fares
Each city is priced on its own page with the date it was checked. On those guide figures were: Toronto £1,790, Vancouver £1,790, Montreal £2,248, Calgary £1,914, Edmonton £1,749 and Ottawa £1,649.
Montreal is the useful anomaly in that list: it is the shortest transatlantic sector of the six and still carries the highest figure. What an airport is worth to an airline matters more than how far away it is, which is exactly why a single Canada price would mislead. These are dated starting prices, and your exact fare is confirmed on your quote.
What moves these fares
Across the 6 arrivals in this group the guide fares currently run from £1,649 for Ottawa to £2,248 for Montreal — one region, two very different tickets.
Within a single arrival, the UK airport you start from does more work than most travellers expect. We can price 6 of these 6 arrivals from more than one UK airport — London, Birmingham (BHX), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN), Newcastle (NCL) — and on 4 of them the cheapest departure is not London. The widest gap in the group is Ottawa: £1,649 from Manchester (MAN) against £2,658 from Newcastle (NCL) — the same journey, on the same dates.
Three things move these numbers beyond the departure airport: your travel dates, how much of the cabin is still open when you book, and which airline and routing the ticket uses. None of them shows in a headline price, which is why we price your own dates before anything is committed. How our fares work sets out the method in full — what a guide fare is, how the “from” figure is chosen, and the claims we do not make about it.
Canada business class FAQs
Questions that span the country. City-specific questions sit with each city.
Which Canadian city has the widest choice from the UK?
Toronto and Vancouver. Vancouver is served nonstop from London Heathrow by Air Canada and British Airways, and also nonstop from London Gatwick by British Airways, which makes it unusual in having two London airports. Virgin Atlantic returned to Canada on 30 March 2025 with a daily Heathrow to Toronto Boeing 787-9, its first Canadian route since 2014.
Can I fly to Canada without going through London?
For Calgary, seasonally. Calgary’s only year-round UK nonstop is to London, operated by Air Canada and by WestJet, whose service uses Gatwick; WestJet also flies Edinburgh as a summer service. For the other cities a regional departure is generally a connecting itinerary, so tell us your airport and we will price it properly rather than assuming Heathrow.
Will I get a lie-flat bed in business class to Canada?
It depends on the aircraft, not the airline. WestJet Business is a lie-flat private pod with direct aisle access, a 46-inch pitch and 22-inch width, but it is carried only on the Boeing 787. Air Canada Signature Class converts to a fully flat bed up to 203.2 cm and is offered on European routes. On a Canadian booking, confirm the aircraft before you confirm the seat.
Is Montreal cheaper because it is closer?
No, and it is the clearest illustration that distance is not what sets these fares. Montreal is the shortest transatlantic sector of the six Canadian cities we cover and still carries the highest guide fare of the group. What the airport is worth to the airline matters more than how far away it is.
What does the Virgin Atlantic and WestJet partnership change?
Connections beyond Toronto. Virgin Atlantic and WestJet are co-located at Toronto Pearson Terminal 3, and their codeshare connects through Toronto to 13 destinations. If your final stop is a smaller Canadian city, that shared terminal is worth knowing about before you book two separate tickets.
Do you publish one Canada fare?
No. Each Canadian city is priced on its own page with the date it was checked. The six behave differently enough — in carrier, aircraft and which UK airport you can use — that a single national figure would be misleading rather than convenient.
