Business Class Flights to Auckland from the UK
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, on the North Island, and the fare arrives at Auckland Airport (AKL). It is a different country from Australia, so the journey is priced UK–New Zealand throughout.

Quick answer
Does a New Zealand trip have to start in Auckland?
Less than it used to. No airline flies between Auckland and anywhere in Europe, so every UK itinerary connects — and Christchurch now has its own one-stop services from Asia, which means a South Island trip no longer has to route through Auckland first.
The shortest single change is Dubai: Emirates publishes a nonstop Dubai to Auckland service on the Airbus A380, one of the longest scheduled flights operating. Asian hubs such as Singapore and Hong Kong also connect, and so does Australia.
Our lowest indicative business class guide fare is £2,845 return from Glasgow (GLA), checked. The London fare we price for Auckland departs Gatwick.

Starting prices by UK departure airport
Starting prices for each UK departure. Your airline and your exact fare are confirmed on your quote.
Auckland is the arrival most UK travellers assume they need. It is worth checking that assumption before you price anything, because New Zealand's long-haul map has changed and Auckland is no longer the only way in.
Nobody flies Auckland to Europe
This is the fact everything else follows from. There are no direct services between Auckland and Europe — not from the UK, not from anywhere else on the continent. Air New Zealand ended its London service in 2020 and sold its Heathrow slot, and nothing has replaced it.
So there is no "is there a direct flight" question to answer here. Every business class itinerary from the UK changes at least once, and the useful question is where.
The shortest single change is Dubai
Emirates publishes a nonstop Dubai to Auckland service on the Airbus A380, and is the only carrier flying nonstop between Auckland and the Middle East. It is one of the longest scheduled flights operating anywhere.
For a UK traveller that produces the tidiest shape available on this route: one carrier, one change, and the enormous sector flown on an aircraft most people find easier to spend a long time in. The alternatives are a change in Asia — Singapore and Hong Kong both connect — or a change in Australia, which adds a shorter Tasman sector at the end.
None of these is automatically right. A Dubai change puts the longest sector second, when you have already been travelling; an Asian change breaks the journey nearer its middle. If you sleep badly on aircraft, that difference is worth more than a few hundred pounds.
Auckland, or the South Island directly?
This is the part that has genuinely changed. Christchurch now carries its own one-stop services from Asia, which means the South Island can be reached without an Auckland leg at all. If your trip is Queenstown, Aoraki, the Canterbury plains or the southern lakes, an Auckland arrival is a domestic flight and an airport transfer you may not need.
Two things follow from that:
- Auckland earns its place when the North Island is the trip — the city itself, the Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Hawke's Bay — or when you genuinely want both islands and are happy to fly between them.
- It stops earning it when the South Island is the trip. Our own figures point the same way: the Christchurch fare we currently hold sits below the Auckland one, which is the opposite of what the map suggests.
Compare it properly before you decide: business class flights to Christchurch, or business class flights to Wellington if the capital is the destination.
What we will not tell you about Air New Zealand and London
You may have read that Air New Zealand is returning to London. There is reporting to that effect, and the airline has said publicly that London is a priority.
We are not going to describe that service, because there is nothing to describe yet: no published schedule, no seats on sale, and no airline page setting out what it would be. When there is, we will say so and give you the dates. Until then, planning a trip around it would mean planning around an announcement rather than a flight.
Where our Auckland fares actually depart from
Business class to Auckland is £2,845 return from Glasgow (GLA), checked.
Two details are worth flagging rather than leaving you to spot. The London service on this route departs Gatwick, not Heathrow — so if you are connecting from elsewhere in the UK, or arriving into London by rail, check which airport you actually need before you build the day around it. And London is not the cheapest departure here; it sits fourth of five.
Because every Auckland itinerary connects anyway, a regional departure is not the compromise it would be on a nonstop route. That is the practical argument for pricing more than one UK start.
Before you book Auckland
- Say which island the trip is really about. On New Zealand that decides more than the dates do.
- If it is the South Island, price Christchurch directly before you assume an Auckland arrival.
- Check whether your London departure is Gatwick or Heathrow — on this route ours is Gatwick.
- Ask where you would rather break a 24-hour journey: Dubai puts the long sector second, Asia breaks it nearer the middle.
- If you are adding a domestic New Zealand sector, ask for it on the same itinerary so a late arrival stays the airline's responsibility.
Auckland is the usual New Zealand gateway, reached beyond an Australian or Asian connection. Our guide to business class across Australia and New Zealand sets out how the two countries compare.

How much is business class to Auckland from the UK?
Our lowest current indicative guide fare is £2,845 return from Glasgow (GLA), checked. First class is indicatively from £4,632.
Are there direct flights from the UK to Auckland?
No. There are no direct services between Auckland and Europe at all, so every itinerary from the UK connects at least once. Air New Zealand ended its London service in 2020 and sold its Heathrow slot.
What is the shortest way to reach Auckland from the UK?
A single change in Dubai. Emirates publishes a nonstop Dubai to Auckland service on the Airbus A380 and is the only carrier flying nonstop between Auckland and the Middle East. It is one of the longest scheduled flights operating.
Is Air New Zealand flying to London again?
Not on any schedule we can point you at. There is reporting that a return is planned and the airline has said London is a priority, but there is nothing on sale, so we will not describe a service we cannot show you. We will give you the dates when there are dates.
Should I fly into Auckland or Christchurch?
It depends which island you are actually visiting. Christchurch now has its own one-stop services from Asia, so a South Island trip does not need an Auckland leg. Our Christchurch figure currently sits below our Auckland one.
Why does the London service depart from Gatwick?
Because that is the London departure this route prices from. It is worth knowing in advance if you are connecting into London, since Gatwick and Heathrow are not interchangeable on the day.
Is London the cheapest UK departure for Auckland?
No. On current guide fares the cheapest is Glasgow (GLA) and London sits fourth of the five departures. Since every itinerary connects anyway, a regional start is not the compromise it would be on a nonstop route.
Where is the best place to break the journey?
A Dubai change puts the very long sector second, after you have already been travelling. An Asian change breaks the journey closer to its middle. If you sleep badly on aircraft that difference usually matters more than the fare does.
Can I add a domestic New Zealand flight to the ticket?
Yes, and it is worth doing. On the same itinerary, a late long-haul arrival is the airline's problem; on a separate ticket bought yourself, it is yours.
Which airport does this Auckland fare use?
Auckland Airport (AKL), New Zealand's main international gateway.
Are these Auckland fares guaranteed?
No. They are dated indicative guide fares, checked, and on a route this long they move with the connection as much as with the cabin.
How do I request an Auckland business class quote?
Use the enquiry form above or email info@expertsbusinessfirst.co.uk. Tell us which island you are heading for and whether you want both — that shapes the ticket before price does.
