Quick answer

Will your onward Brazilian flight leave from the airport you land at?

Often not. Sao Paulo has two airports doing different jobs: Guarulhos (GRU), about 25 km east, takes essentially every long-haul flight, while Congonhas (CGH), about 8 km from downtown, is domestic only. A Brazilian connection can mean crossing the city.

GRU is the largest airport in Brazil and Latin America and a hub for LATAM and GOL, with three terminals connected by walkways and shuttles. British Airways operates London Heathrow to Sao Paulo up to daily.

Our lowest indicative business class guide fare is £1,736 return, checked. We do not name a UK departure for it, and the section below explains why.

Put any Brazilian domestic sector on the same ticket, and check whether it leaves from GRU or CGH before you plan the day around it.

  • Guarulhos (GRU) is the international airport, about 25 km east
  • Congonhas (CGH) is domestic only, about 8 km from downtown
  • GRU is the largest airport in Brazil and Latin America
  • A LATAM and GOL hub with three connected terminals
  • British Airways operates Heathrow to Sao Paulo up to daily

São Paulo is a two-airport city where the two airports are not alternatives — they do different jobs. Getting that the wrong way round costs you an afternoon in one of the world's heaviest traffic systems.

Guarulhos takes your long-haul. Congonhas does not.

Guarulhos (GRU), about 25 km east of the centre, handles essentially every long-haul flight into São Paulo. It is the largest airport in Brazil and Latin America, a hub for LATAM and GOL, and its three terminals are connected by walkways and shuttles — so a connection inside GRU is a normal airport connection.

Congonhas (CGH) is a different proposition: a single-terminal domestic airport about 8 km from downtown. It is closer to the city and it is not where you arrive from the UK.

The trap is the onward sector. A Brazilian domestic flight to Rio, Brasília, Salvador or Recife may be scheduled from Congonhas, and if it is, your connection is not a walk between terminals — it is a cross-city road transfer between two airports, through São Paulo traffic, with luggage. That is an entirely manageable thing to plan for and a genuinely bad thing to discover.

So the question to ask about any São Paulo itinerary with a second flight in it is simply: which airport does that leg depart from?

The flight itself

British Airways operates London Heathrow to São Paulo up to daily. The alternative shapes are a European connection, a routing through another South American point, or a change in the United States. On a sector this long the difference between them is mostly about what time you arrive and how you sleep — but a US connection is a separate sector with its own arrival airport and its own entry requirements, so ask for it to be named. The USA hub sets out those gateways.

It is a genuine overnight crossing of the South Atlantic with very little time-zone change, which makes it unusual among long-haul routes: you land tired but not displaced. The cabin matters more here than the clock does.

What it costs, and what shapes the day

Business class to São Paulo starts from £1,736 return, checked.

Tell us which UK airport you want to travel from and we will price it directly. On a sector this long the shape of the itinerary — whether you connect in Europe, in South America or in the United States — moves the day far more than the departure airport does.

São Paulo is not Rio, and we will not quietly swap them

They are different cities, several hundred kilometres apart, with different airports and usually different reasons for the trip. São Paulo is where the business is; Rio is not a São Paulo suburb with better scenery.

If Rio is where you are going, say so and we will price it as its own journey rather than selling you a São Paulo fare and an onward hop you did not ask for. If both are in the trip, an open-jaw is usually the better ticket.

Before you book São Paulo

  • Confirm the arrival is GRU — that is the international airport.
  • For any onward Brazilian flight, ask whether it leaves from GRU or CGH.
  • Keep the domestic sector on the same itinerary so a late long-haul stays the airline's responsibility.
  • Treat the headline as a guide figure without a named departure airport, and ask us to price your actual UK start.
  • If Rio is in the trip, say so at the quote stage rather than afterwards.

FAQs

What do travellers ask about business class to Sao Paulo?

Prefer to talk? +447348617176 .

How much is business class to São Paulo from the UK?

Our lowest current indicative guide fare is £1,736 return, checked. Unusually for this site we do not attach a UK departure airport to it — see the explanation above.

Why do you not list what each UK airport costs?

Because our headline figure currently sits below every individual UK departure on this route, so naming a departure airport for it would not be accurate. A comparison whose cheapest entry was higher than the fare above it would mislead. We price each UK start individually instead.

Which airport does this São Paulo fare use?

Guarulhos (GRU), about 25 km east of the centre. It is the largest airport in Brazil and Latin America and handles essentially every long-haul flight into the city.

What is the difference between GRU and CGH?

Guarulhos (GRU) is the international airport. Congonhas (CGH) is a single-terminal domestic airport about 8 km from downtown. They are not alternatives — they do different jobs.

Will my connecting flight leave from the same airport?

Not always. A Brazilian domestic sector to Rio, Brasília, Salvador or Recife may be scheduled from Congonhas, which means a cross-city road transfer rather than a terminal change. Ask which airport that leg departs from before you plan the day.

Is there a direct flight from the UK to São Paulo?

Yes. British Airways operates London Heathrow to São Paulo up to daily. The alternatives connect in Europe or elsewhere in South America.

Is São Paulo the same as Rio de Janeiro?

No. They are different cities several hundred kilometres apart with different airports. If Rio is the destination, we treat it as its own journey rather than adding a hop to a São Paulo fare.

Can I visit both São Paulo and Rio?

Yes, and an open-jaw is usually the better ticket — in to one, out of the other. Tell us the shape of the trip and we will price it that way.

Is connecting inside Guarulhos difficult?

No. GRU has three terminals connected by walkways and shuttles, so a connection within the airport behaves like a normal airport connection. The difficulty only arises when the onward flight is at Congonhas instead.

Does the flight cross many time zones?

Very few — it is a north-south crossing of the South Atlantic. You arrive tired from the length of the flight rather than displaced by the clock, which is part of why the cabin matters on this route.

Are these São Paulo fares guaranteed?

No. They are dated indicative guide fares, checked. That figure also carries no named UK departure, for the reason set out above, so treat it as a starting point for a quote rather than a price.

How do I request a São Paulo business class quote?

Use the enquiry form above or email info@expertsbusinessfirst.co.uk. Tell us your UK departure airport and whether any Brazilian domestic flights are part of the trip — both change the ticket.
