Quick answer

Which African arrival has a nonstop from the UK?

Johannesburg, Cape Town and Mauritius all have UK services published by the airline. Virgin Atlantic flies Heathrow to Johannesburg daily in about eleven hours; its Cape Town service runs 15 October 2026 to 20 April 2027; and Air Mauritius publishes flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick.

Durban is the clearest contrast: no UK airport publishes a nonstop, and Emirates routes it through Dubai on a sector of about eight hours twenty. British Airways adds a third daily Cape Town flight in December.

Route facts checked 14 September 2026. Port Elizabeth is officially Gqeberha and its airport is Chief Dawid Stuurman International. We have not established a current UK nonstop to the Seychelles, so we confirm the carrier on your dates.

Ask whether your arrival is a published nonstop or a Gulf connection — it changes the journey far more than the cabin does.

  • Virgin Atlantic flies Heathrow to Johannesburg daily
  • Cape Town’s Virgin service runs October 2026 to April 2027
  • No UK airport publishes a nonstop to Durban
  • Port Elizabeth is officially Gqeberha
  • Lowest guide fare £1,577 to Mauritius

One question separates these six arrivals more than anything else: does an airline publish a service from Britain, or does the journey go through the Gulf? It changes the length of your day, the number of sectors you fly and, on current figures, the fare — usually in that order of importance.

Which arrivals have a service published from the UK

Arrival What the airline publishes Read more
Johannesburg (JNB) Virgin Atlantic daily from Heathrow, around eleven hours; British Airways also serves it Business class to Johannesburg
Cape Town (CPT) Virgin Atlantic seasonal, 15 October 2026 to 20 April 2027; British Airways adds a third daily flight in December Business class to Cape Town
Mauritius (MRU) Air Mauritius publishes UK flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick Business class to Mauritius
Durban (DUR) No UK airport publishes a nonstop; Emirates routes it through Dubai Business class to Durban

Seychelles (SEZ) We have not established a current UK nonstop, so we confirm the carrier on your dates Business class to the Seychelles

Cape Town is the one to watch the calendar on. Virgin's service is published as seasonal rather than year-round, so a date outside 15 October 2026 to 20 April 2027 is a different journey from a date inside it.

Durban is the clearest contrast in the group

No UK airport publishes a nonstop to Durban. Emirates publishes Durban itineraries from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted by way of Dubai, with the Dubai to Durban sector published at about eight hours twenty, and Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First all bookable on it.

That connection is the reason Durban's journey time and its guide fare both sit above the South African cities that have direct services. It is not a worse way to travel — the Gulf carriers do this well — but it is a materially different day, and it should be a decision rather than a surprise.

Port Elizabeth is officially Gqeberha

Port Elizabeth has been officially renamed Gqeberha, and its airport is officially Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, formerly Port Elizabeth International. Uitenhage became Kariega and East London Airport became King Phalo Airport in the same set of changes.

Both the old and new names remain in wide use, which matters when you are reading a booking confirmation or looking for the airport on arrival boards. We use both so there is no ambiguity about which place is meant.

A caution about first class figures

Cape Town carries the narrowest gap between our first and business figures of any destination we cover — narrow enough that we would not treat it as a reliable guide to what a first class ticket actually costs on that route. Where a first figure sits implausibly close to the business one, the honest thing is to say so rather than let it imply an upgrade is nearly free.

Ask us what a first fare buys on your dates before you read the gap as the price of the upgrade.

One question comes up on Johannesburg more than on any other arrival in this group, and it is not about the fare. We are a travel company, not a security authority, so we publish no assessment of our own — but we do have a separate guide to what a UK business trip to Johannesburg actually involves, which begins with current FCDO advice and then covers the journey, the arrival airport and the transfer.

Six arrivals, six fares

Each arrival is priced on its own page with the date it was checked. On those guide figures were: Johannesburg £1,593, Cape Town £1,769, Durban £1,965, Port Elizabeth £1,856, Mauritius £1,577 and Seychelles £1,873.

The Seychelles is worth a second look in that list: it carries the widest spread between our cheapest and dearest UK departure of this group, so the airport you start from moves the number more here than on the others. These are dated starting prices, and your exact fare is confirmed on your quote.

What moves these fares

Across the 6 arrivals in this group the guide fares currently run from £1,577 for Mauritius to £1,965 for Durban — one region, two very different tickets.

Within a single arrival, the UK airport you start from does more work than most travellers expect. We can price 6 of these 6 arrivals from more than one UK airport — London, Birmingham (BHX), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN), Newcastle (NCL) — and on 3 of them the cheapest departure is not London. The widest gap in the group is Seychelles: £1,873 from London against £2,331 from Birmingham (BHX) — the same journey, on the same dates.

Three things move these numbers beyond the departure airport: your travel dates, how much of the cabin is still open when you book, and which airline and routing the ticket uses. None of them shows in a headline price, which is why we price your own dates before anything is committed. How our fares work sets out the method in full — what a guide fare is, how the “from” figure is chosen, and the claims we do not make about it.

Africa and Indian Ocean business class FAQs

Questions that span the region. Arrival-specific questions sit with each page.

Which African arrivals have a service published from the UK?

Johannesburg, Cape Town and Mauritius. Virgin Atlantic flies London Heathrow to Johannesburg daily in around eleven hours and British Airways also serves it. Virgin’s Cape Town service is published as seasonal, running 15 October 2026 to 20 April 2027, and British Airways adds a third daily Heathrow to Cape Town flight in December. Air Mauritius publishes UK flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick.

Is there a nonstop from the UK to Durban?

No UK airport publishes one. Emirates publishes Durban itineraries from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted via Dubai, with the Dubai to Durban sector published at about eight hours twenty, and Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First all bookable on it. That connection is why Durban’s journey time and its fare both sit above the South African cities that have direct services.

Is the Seychelles served nonstop from the UK?

That is not something we have been able to establish from a current source, so we do not claim it. We confirm which carrier and routing apply on your dates before you book. What we can say is that the Seychelles carries the widest spread between our cheapest and dearest UK departure of its group, so the airport you start from matters more here than on most routes.

Why is Port Elizabeth listed under a different name?

Port Elizabeth has been officially renamed Gqeberha, and its airport is officially Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, formerly Port Elizabeth International. Uitenhage became Kariega and East London Airport became King Phalo Airport in the same set of changes. Both names are still in wide use, which is worth knowing when you are reading a booking confirmation.

Does a first class fare to Africa mean a first cabin all the way?

Not always, and Cape Town is the case to be careful with: it carries the narrowest gap between our first and business figures of any destination we cover, narrow enough that we would not treat it as a reliable guide to what a first class ticket costs on that route. Ask us what a first fare actually buys on your dates before you treat the gap as the price of an upgrade.

Do you publish one Africa fare?

No. Each arrival is priced on its own page with the date it was checked. Whether a route has a published nonstop changes the journey far more than the cabin does, and one regional figure would flatten exactly that difference.
