Quick answer

Which Gulf city should you fly to, and from which UK airport?

It depends on whether the Gulf is your destination or your connection. Emirates publishes UK flights from eight airports, so Dubai is reachable without London. Qatar Airways flies Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh to Doha. Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh and Jeddah are served from Heathrow.

Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi are also the largest connecting hubs between Britain and Asia, Africa and Australia, so the same airport can end your trip or sit in the middle of it. The other five are almost always the destination itself.

Route facts checked 14 September 2026. Each city below carries its own dated guide fare rather than one Gulf price, and on several of these routes the cheapest UK departure is not London.

Choose the city first and the departure airport second — the two decisions interact more here than on most long-haul routes.

  • Emirates publishes UK flights from eight airports
  • Qatar Airways flies Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh
  • Four airlines fly Heathrow to Riyadh
  • British Airways sells Muscat; Qatar Airways operates it
  • Lowest Gulf guide fare £1,323 to Dubai

Eight Gulf cities, and the question that actually decides your booking is not which airline has the better seat. It is whether the Gulf is where you are going or how you are getting somewhere else — and whether you can start from your own airport or have to reach London first.

Destination or connection?

Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi are the three largest connecting hubs between Britain and Asia, Africa and Australia. That makes them unusual: the same airport can be the end of your trip or the middle of somebody else's, and a fare built to carry you onwards is not always the best fare for stopping there. Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh and Jeddah are almost always the destination itself.

Say which of the two you are doing when you ask. It changes the routing we look for before it changes the price.

Can you start from your own airport?

This is where the eight differ most sharply, and it is worth checking before you settle on a city.

The practical reading: Dubai is the Gulf arrival most widely reachable without travelling to London, and Doha is the one with the next-widest regional access. For the rest, a regional departure is a connecting itinerary rather than a nonstop, which is worth knowing before you compare it with a London fare.

Four airlines now fly Heathrow to Riyadh

Saudi Arabia has changed faster than any other part of this region. British Airways operates twelve flights a week in winter, rising to fourteen weekly from summer 2026. Saudia runs up to three daily Heathrow services. Virgin Atlantic launched a daily Heathrow route on 30 March 2025 and operates it year-round. Riyadh Air, the country's new national carrier, is listed by Heathrow as operating from Terminal 4.

Four carriers on one city pair is unusual, and it is the reason Riyadh is worth asking about rather than assuming. Jeddah is served by Saudia and British Airways and behaves differently: our cheapest UK departure for it is Manchester, not London.

Whose aircraft are you actually on?

One booking in this region routinely surprises people. Muscat flights sold by British Airways are operated by its oneworld partner Qatar Airways, so the cabin, the crew and the routing are Qatar's rather than BA's. Oman Air separately operates its own Heathrow service, double-daily from 26 October 2025, on a Boeing 787-9 in a three-cabin layout.

Two carriers, one destination, and a completely different journey depending on which one a fare puts you on. Ask, and we will tell you which it is before you book.

Eight fares, not one Gulf price

Each city is priced on its own page with the date it was checked. On those guide figures were: Dubai £1,323, Abu Dhabi £2,365, Doha £2,333, Bahrain £1,346, Kuwait £1,344, Muscat £1,444, Riyadh £1,444 and Jeddah £1,458.

The spread across the eight is wide enough that treating the Gulf as one price would be misleading rather than convenient. These are dated starting prices, and on several of these routes the cheapest UK departure is not London — Abu Dhabi's is Newcastle and Jeddah's is Manchester on current figures. The departure comparison on each city page is the place to check that.

What moves these fares

Across the 8 arrivals in this group the guide fares currently run from £1,323 for Dubai to £2,365 for Abu Dhabi — one region, two very different tickets.

Within a single arrival, the UK airport you start from does more work than most travellers expect. We can price 8 of these 8 arrivals from more than one UK airport — London, Birmingham (BHX), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN), Newcastle (NCL) — and on 2 of them the cheapest departure is not London. The widest gap in the group is Kuwait: £1,344 from London against £2,159 from Glasgow (GLA) — the same journey, on the same dates.

Three things move these numbers beyond the departure airport: your travel dates, how much of the cabin is still open when you book, and which airline and routing the ticket uses. None of them shows in a headline price, which is why we price your own dates before anything is committed. How our fares work sets out the method in full — what a guide fare is, how the “from” figure is chosen, and the claims we do not make about it.

Middle East business class FAQs

Questions that span the region. City-specific questions sit with each city.

Which Gulf city has a nonstop from my local UK airport?

Emirates publishes UK flights from eight airports — Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh — so Dubai is the Gulf arrival most widely reachable without travelling to London. Qatar Airways flies Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh to Doha. Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh and Jeddah are served from Heathrow. Tell us the airport you can actually reach and we will price the options from it.

Is Dubai a destination or a connection?

Both, and the answer changes what you should book. Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi are the largest connecting hubs between Britain and Asia, Africa and Australia, so the same airport can be the end of your trip or the middle of it. If the Gulf city is the destination, say so when you ask — a fare built to connect onwards is not always the best fare to stop there.

How many airlines fly from the UK to Riyadh?

Four. British Airways, Saudia, Virgin Atlantic and Riyadh Air all operate from London Heathrow. Virgin Atlantic started its daily Heathrow service on 30 March 2025, and Riyadh Air is listed by Heathrow as operating from Terminal 4. That is more UK choice than any other Saudi arrival has.

If I book British Airways to Muscat, am I flying British Airways?

Not on the aircraft. Muscat flights sold by British Airways are operated by its oneworld partner Qatar Airways, so the cabin, the crew and the routing are Qatar’s. Oman Air also operates its own London service from Heathrow Terminal 4, double-daily from 26 October 2025, on a Boeing 787-9. Ask us which one a fare is actually putting you on.

Is the cheapest Gulf fare always from London?

No, and this is the group where that assumption costs the most. On several of these routes the lowest UK departure is a regional airport rather than London. Each city below carries its own dated departure comparison, which is the place to check it rather than a single Gulf figure.

Do you publish one Middle East fare?

No. Each Gulf arrival is priced on its own page with the date it was checked, because they are different journeys on different carriers. Flattening eight cities into one headline number would hide the differences that decide which one you should book.
