Quick answer

Does the Cancun flight leave from Heathrow or Gatwick?

Gatwick. British Airways operates its Cancun service from London Gatwick rather than Heathrow, and published an increase from six flights a week to a daily service.

That is the opposite assumption to most long-haul routes we cover, and it changes the journey to the airport, the terminal and any connecting flight you were planning through Heathrow.

Frequencies are the airline's published plans and change by season. Our guide fare is £1,917 return from London (LON), checked.

Check the London airport before you book rail, parking or a connection. On this route the default assumption is wrong.

  • Playa del Carmen and Tulum are a drive south

Two things about Cancun catch UK travellers out, and neither is the fare. The flight does not leave from Heathrow, and the airport does not serve a city so much as a hundred kilometres of coast.

Gatwick, not Heathrow

British Airways operates its Cancun service from London Gatwick, and published an increase on the route from six flights a week to a daily service.

Most long-haul routes we cover leave from Heathrow, so Gatwick is the assumption people get wrong — and getting it wrong is expensive in the small ways that spoil a first day. A rail ticket to the wrong London airport, airport parking booked in the wrong place, or a connecting flight planned into Heathrow are all decisions made before anyone checks a departure board.

The two airports are roughly an hour and a half apart by road and sit on different rail lines. For travellers south of London, Gatwick is usually easier; from the Midlands or the north it generally is not, which is part of why the regional departures on this route behave the way they do.

Frequencies change by season and we confirm the pattern on your dates rather than treating an announcement as a timetable.

The airport serves a coastline

The fare prices to Cancun International Airport (CUN), and the great majority of UK travellers using it are not staying in Cancun.

Those are approximate and traffic-dependent, and we are not going to publish precise transfer times we cannot stand behind. The point is structural: on this route the arrival time is part of the holiday plan, particularly if you are heading well south and particularly if a ferry is involved.

Why our Cancun first class figure sits so close to business

The current first class guide fare to Cancun is £2,547, and the gap between it and the business figure is one of the narrowest of any destination we cover.

We do not think that is a reliable guide to what a first class ticket costs on this route, and we would rather flag it than let you build a budget on it. Ask us what is actually bookable on your dates. A leisure route flown predominantly in one cabin is not where we would expect a meaningful first class market in any case.

Mexico has more than one arrival

Cancun is a Caribbean-coast resort gateway on the Yucatán peninsula. It is not a base for the rest of Mexico: Mexico City is a domestic flight away, and the colonial interior and the Pacific coast are further still.

If your trip is the Riviera Maya, the Yucatán ruins and the cenotes, this is the arrival. If it takes in Mexico City or the west, tell us — a Cancun ticket with a domestic sector bolted on is rarely the right construction, and an open-jaw is often better.

If you are weighing Caribbean winter-sun arrivals against each other rather than committing to Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic price separately we cover and behave differently once you land.

Our lowest current indicative business class guide fare is £1,917 return from London (LON), checked. Dated starting prices; your exact fare is confirmed on your quote.

Before you book Cancun

  • Confirm the London airport is Gatwick before booking rail, parking or a connection.
  • Tell us where you are staying — an hour or two south of the airport changes which arrival time works.
  • If a ferry is involved, check the last crossing against your landing time.
  • Ask what a first class ticket actually costs here rather than working from the figure.
  • If the trip also covers Mexico City or the west, ask about an open-jaw rather than a domestic add-on.

Cancun is Mexico’s Caribbean coast rather than an island, and is bought the way the islands are. Our guide to business class across the Caribbean compares the arrivals on that sea.

FAQs

What do travellers ask about business class to Cancun?

How much is business class to Cancun from the UK?

The lowest indicative guide fare we currently hold is £1,917 return from London (LON), checked. These are dated starting prices, and your exact fare is confirmed on your quote.

Does the Cancun flight go from Heathrow or Gatwick?

Gatwick. British Airways operates its Cancun service from London Gatwick rather than Heathrow, and published an increase from six weekly flights to a daily service. Check that before booking rail, parking or a connection.

Which airport does this Cancun fare use?

Cancun International Airport (CUN) on the Yucatán peninsula. It serves the whole Riviera Maya coastline, not only the city.

How far is Playa del Carmen or Tulum from Cancun airport?

Roughly an hour to Playa del Carmen and around two hours to Tulum, traffic depending. We will not publish precise transfer times, but the structural point is that a late landing turns a southern transfer into a night drive.

Does my arrival time matter for Cancun?

More than on most leisure routes. If you are staying well south along the coast, or taking a ferry to Cozumel, the landing time decides whether day one works. Tell us where you are staying before we fix a flight.

Why is the first class figure so close to the business one here?

We do not think it is reliable, and we would rather say so. Cancun carries one of the narrowest first-to-business gaps of any destination we cover. Ask us what is actually bookable rather than budgeting from that number.

Can I use Cancun as a base for the rest of Mexico?

Not really. Mexico City is a domestic flight away and the Pacific coast further still. Cancun is the arrival for the Riviera Maya, the Yucatán ruins and the cenotes. For a wider trip, ask about an open-jaw.

Is Gatwick harder to reach than Heathrow?

It depends where you start. They are roughly an hour and a half apart by road and on different rail lines. For travellers south of London Gatwick is usually easier; from the Midlands or the north it generally is not.

Can I fly to Cancun from a regional UK airport?

Our UK departures for this destination include regional departures, but the published nonstop leaves Gatwick, so a regional fare is buying a connection as well as the long-haul sector. The departure board shows the current ladder.

Are these Cancun fares guaranteed?

No. Cancun is a leisure route where school holidays and the winter-sun window move availability before they move the headline. Checked.

How do I get a Cancun business class quote?

Use the enquiry form above or email info@expertsbusinessfirst.co.uk. Tell us the resort or town you are staying in, and whether Gatwick or a regional departure suits you.
