Quick answer

Should you pay for the Heathrow nonstop to Ottawa?

Only if your dates fit it. Air Canada restored Heathrow to Ottawa on 31 March 2025 after a five-year gap, four flights a week on a three-cabin Dreamliner, and Heathrow publishes the flight time as 7.5 hours.

Four flights a week is the constraint. On current guide fares the cheapest UK guide fare is £1,649 from Manchester (MAN), and the Heathrow fare sits well above it — so the nonstop carries a real premium here.

Frequencies are the airline's and airport's published figures and change seasonally. Fares were checked and are dated guide figures.

Price both. If the four weekly departures suit your diary the nonstop is worth weighing; if they do not, you are paying a premium for a flight you cannot use.

Ottawa got its Heathrow nonstop back in 2025 after five years without one. It runs four days a week, and on current guide fares it is not the cheapest way to reach the Canadian capital from Britain — which makes this a real decision rather than an obvious one.

The nonstop is back, and it runs four days a week

Air Canada resumed non-stop Ottawa–London Heathrow service on 31 March 2025. Heathrow describes it as returning "after a five-year break", published at four flights per week with a flight time of 7.5 hours. Ottawa International Airport's own announcement describes the aircraft as Air Canada's Dreamliner fleet offering a choice of three cabins — Signature Class with lie-flat pods, Premium Economy and Economy — and Air Canada has since confirmed the route continuing through the winter season, making it year-round rather than summer-only.

Two things follow, and the second is the one that catches people.

  • There is a genuine lie-flat business cabin on the nonstop. Signature Class is Air Canada's long-haul business product, and it is on the aircraft the airport describes for this route.
  • Four flights a week is not most weeks. A route operating four days out of seven will not fit every itinerary, and a two-night trip in particular can find that the outbound exists and the return does not. That is a scheduling constraint, not a fare problem, and no amount of budget solves it.

Frequencies move with the season and we confirm the actual pattern on your dates rather than assuming this one holds.

What our fare ladder says about the nonstop

Business class to Ottawa is £1,649 return from Manchester (MAN), checked — and the Heathrow fare sits materially above it.

That is worth stating plainly, because it inverts the usual pitch. On most routes the nonstop is the thing you are being sold and the connection is the compromise. On Ottawa, at these figures, the nonstop is the premium product: you are paying extra for a flight that operates four days a week, and the cheaper fare is a connection from elsewhere in the UK.

Ottawa also carries the widest UK departure spread of any Canadian city in our current guide fares — the gap between the cheapest and dearest UK departures runs to several hundred pounds, far more than on Chicago or Austin. The departure board below shows the current spread, and it is unusually worth reading.

Neither answer is automatically right. Seven and a half hours nonstop into the capital, arriving without a connection, is a real product and some travellers should buy it. But it should be a choice made with the numbers in front of you.

Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto — the question people usually mean

Travellers heading for the Canadian capital often ask whether they should fly somewhere better served and travel on. It is a fair question and the answer is not always Ottawa.

If your business is with the federal government, Ottawa is the arrival and the ground transfer at the far end is short. If you are being told to fly to Toronto and drive, understand what that actually involves before agreeing to it — it is a long way, and a domestic sector plus a transfer will often cost more in time than the fare saves. We will price all three if it helps you decide.

Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier (YOW)

The arrival is Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW), south of the city. It is the capital's single commercial airport, so there is no second-airport decision to get wrong — unusual for a capital city and one less thing to check.

Air Canada is a Heathrow Terminal 2 carrier, which matters if you are connecting from a British Airways domestic flight arriving into Terminal 5 or Terminal 3. That is an inter-terminal transfer and it needs more than the minimum connection time a booking engine will offer you.

Before you commit to a date

  • Check the four weekly departures against your actual diary first. On this route the schedule rules out more itineraries than the fare does.
  • Ask for both the nonstop and the connecting fare, and decide with the gap in front of you.
  • Ask which cabin the connecting itinerary puts you in on each sector — a business fare is occasionally sold with a lesser cabin on the shorter leg.
  • Confirm the arrival is YOW, not a Montreal or Toronto arrival with a domestic hop attached.
  • If you are connecting at Heathrow, allow for the terminal change onto Air Canada in Terminal 2.

Ottawa carries the lowest Canadian guide fare of the six on current figures. Our guide to business class across Canada compares it with the rest.

FAQs

What do travellers ask about business class to Ottawa?

Prefer to talk? +447348617176 .

How much is business class to Ottawa from the UK?

The lowest indicative guide fare we currently hold is £1,649 return from Manchester (MAN), checked. the Heathrow fare sits materially above that, so on this route the nonstop is the premium option rather than the default.

Is there a direct flight from the UK to Ottawa?

Yes. Air Canada resumed non-stop Ottawa to London Heathrow service on 31 March 2025 after what Heathrow describes as a five-year break. It is published at four flights a week, with a flight time of 7.5 hours.

How often does the Ottawa nonstop operate?

Four flights a week as published. That is the main constraint on this route: four days out of seven will not fit every itinerary, and a short trip can find the outbound works and the return does not. Check the schedule against your diary before the fare.

Is there a lie-flat business cabin on the Ottawa nonstop?

Yes. Ottawa International Airport describes the service as Air Canada Dreamliner with a choice of three cabins — Signature Class with lie-flat pods, Premium Economy and Economy. We confirm the aircraft on your dates.

Is the Ottawa nonstop worth paying more for?

That depends on your dates. On current guide fares it carries a real premium over the cheapest UK fare, which is a connection. Seven and a half hours straight into the capital is a genuine product, but it should be chosen with both numbers in front of you.

Should I fly to Toronto or Montreal and travel on to Ottawa?

Sometimes, but understand what it involves. Both are a long way from Ottawa, and a domestic sector plus a ground transfer often costs more in time than the fare saves. If your business is with the federal government, the Ottawa arrival puts you close to it. We will price all three.

Which airport does this Ottawa fare use?

Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW), south of the city. It is the capital's single commercial airport, so there is no second-airport choice to make.

Which Heathrow terminal is Air Canada?

Terminal 2. If you are connecting from a British Airways domestic flight into Terminal 5 or Terminal 3, that is an inter-terminal transfer and needs more than a minimum connection.

Why is the Ottawa fare so different from one UK airport to another?

Ottawa carries the widest UK departure spread of any Canadian city in our current guide fares — several hundred pounds between the cheapest and dearest departures. That is unusual and it is why the departure board is worth reading rather than skipping.

Is first class available to Ottawa?

We currently hold a first class fare from £2,869. The nonstop aircraft is described with three cabins, of which Signature Class is the highest, so a first class itinerary would mean a different routing. We check what is genuinely bookable before quoting it.

Are these Ottawa fares guaranteed?

No. On a four-times-weekly route a single date change can move you between the nonstop and a connection, and the two are priced very differently. Checked.
